| 🎉 The Naperville FunTimes Your Weekly Family Fun Guide Issue #31 • Friday, October 9, 2026 | |
| Happy Friday, Naperville families! 🍃 No school Thursday or Friday, and with parent-teacher conferences all on Zoom, there’s no early pickup this week, just a laptop and a kid wandering behind you. Add the weekend and Monday’s Columbus Day off, and Naperville families have five days without a bus stop to fill. This weekend has room for a free horse festival in Wheaton, 8,000 glass pumpkins on a lawn in Lisle, and a free nature center in Naperville that has gone full Halloween. Kids eat free at two spots too, and both work on Monday.

| 📅 This Week’s Top 3 Family Picks |

Fall Festival at Danada — Pony Rides, Wagon Rides & a Straw Maze, Free to Walk In 🐴
The Forest Preserve District calls this its biggest event of the year, and it’s easy to see why a toddler would agree. There are horse demonstrations in the main arena, a straw maze for kids 10 and under, face painting, corn play at Danada House, and a meet-and-greet with the resident horses. Pony rides run 11:30 to 4:30 and cost extra, as do the tractor-drawn wagon rides and craft tables, so bring a few dollars in small bills.

Glass Pumpkin Patch at The Morton Arboretum — 8,000 Handblown Pumpkins on One Lawn 🎃
Thousands of handcrafted glass pumpkins are laid out on the West Lawn near the Visitor Center like a very expensive, very shiny pumpkin patch. It’s outdoors, runs rain or shine, and the arboretum’s fall color is right around it, so it works as a real walk and not just a photo stop. Entry comes with general admission, so check mortonarb.org for ticket prices before you go.

Creepy Critters Month at Knoch Knolls Nature Center — Spiders, Vultures & Zero Dollars 🕷️
All October, the Naperville Park District’s nature center goes Halloween-creature: self-guided activities about spiders, vultures and the rest of the cast nobody invites to the party. It’s an easy, no-reservation stop with little kids, and Saturday is the day to go, because the center is closed on Sundays.

| Five days off in a row is a lot of days to fill, so give Saturday to the ponies, Sunday to pajamas, and Monday to whatever’s left. Mornings are cold and afternoons aren’t, so dress everyone in layers and keep a bag in the trunk for the discarded ones. See you next Friday, The Naperville FunTimes Team 🧡 |
