Remember the fireworks that got rained out on the Fourth? They’re happening this Saturday — a full month late and honestly better for it, because nobody has to fight July 4th traffic. Pair that with a morning bike parade for the little ones and you’ve got a Saturday that starts at 9am and ends with the sky lighting up. We’ve also got a two-day food festival where kids get in free.

The Rained-Out Fireworks Are Finally Happening — Saturday Night 🎆
The July 4th show got washed out, and the city rebooked it for this Saturday at 9:30pm. Honestly? Better deal. Same fireworks, a fraction of the crowd, and you’re not competing with the entire western suburbs for a parking spot. Park at the sports complex or the Neuqua Valley High School lot next door and walk in. Heads up on two things: there’s no Municipal Band concert this time, so there’s no built-in entertainment before the show — bring cards, glow sticks, a soccer ball, whatever keeps your crew busy on a blanket until dark. And 9:30 is past bedtime for the little ones, so plan on carrying somebody to the car.

Junior Tour de Naperville — Your Kid’s First Real Race Number 🚴
This is the Park District’s Tour de France tribute for kids, and it is exactly as charming as that sounds. Bikes, trikes, big wheels — whatever your kid rolls on — around a 1.2-mile loop trail, with age groups going off at staggered start times so nobody gets run over by a nine-year-old on a mountain bike. There are “support and gear” water stops along the course, every registered rider gets a yellow jersey tee, and parents can either ride alongside or stand on the grass yelling like it’s the Alpe d’Huez. Register online before Saturday. Then head home, nap, and come back out for the fireworks that night.

Veggie Fest Chicago — 100+ Food Stalls and Kids Get In Free 🌶
Don’t let the name scare off your meat-and-potatoes kid — this is one of the biggest food festivals in the region, and the international food court alone is worth the trip. Think dosas, falafel, arepas, noodles, mango lassi. There’s a kids’ tent with face painting and crafts, live music all day, cooking demos, and over 100 exhibitors spread across the park. Two solid moves: go closer to 11am when it opens (shade and seating are easier to find), and bring cash for the food stalls even though most take cards. Parking is free at the Navistar lot nearby.
